Going through that all recently,
I know how nerve-wracking all the wedding preps can be. And makeup is one of
those things we all spend days deciding upon. We want to look perfect an all
the post-wedding parties, a glowing new bride and yet don’t want to spend all
on makeup when there’s lots of other stuff to do.
Also many of us who have recently
stepped into the makeup world tend to get lost amongst the endless
possibilities. We want everything but still wonder do we really need it.
I have been thinking about doing
this post ever since I got over my wedding and settling craziness. Being a
beauty blogger it was easy for me to decide what to invest in and what to wear.
But for everybody it isn’t as it wasn’t for me in the beginning.
So I am bringing you this very
simple guide of products that should be in every bride’s basic makeup kit. This makeup kit guide will work for any beginner too who is confused over what to buy.
FOUNDATION
We all want that flawless
complexion. I prefer sheer to medium coverage over heavy. I don’t have many
skin issues so mostly I am using a BB Cream or a Tinted Moisturizer. I wear Liz
Earle Sheer Skin Tint which is a mix between both. As it is not readily
available in Pakistan some good BB Creams that you can invest in are Garnier
BB Cream and Sleek Makeup Be Beautiful Blemish Balm. And if you are into medium to heavy coverage then Rimmel
Match Perfection Foundation and Revlon Colorstay Foundation are safe
bets.
CONCEALER
I for one cannot live without a
concealer. My dark circles are just too bad. And there are times when we all need
to cover that treacherous spots that appears on the most important dinners of
our life. Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection is by far the best I have
tried. Not good enough for MY dark circles but it works. If you don’t have a
lot to conceal Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer is quite good with
highlighting properties. If you can find one then Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda
Concealer Palette is a great buy too.
SETTING POWDER
We need to set all the concealer
and foundation in the end. I use Sheer Perfection Translucent Finishing
Powder by Mineral Hygienics.
But pressed powder will also work. Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder
and L’Oreal
True Match Powder give a very natural finish to the face.
EYESHADOW
I am not at all an eyeshadow
person. Seldom use them. If I have to, I make do with DMGM Sparkling Jewels Baked Eyeshadow in Bronze Spark and MUA Matte Eyeshadow in Shade 20 for
smokey looks. However, if you don’t
hoard a lot of makeup it is best to invest in an eyeshadow palette. MUA
have some AH-MAZING ones without burning a hole in your packet. For neutral
everyday shades go for MUA Undressed Palette or Heaven
and Earth Palette. Beautyuk and Sleek Makeup also have some fun, good quality shades. Want
something huge-r? Go for Coastal Scents or BH
Cosmetics multiple eyeshadow palettes.
EYELINER
I never leave my house without
it. Makes such a huge difference to the eye. If you are new to applying
eyeliners go for an eye marker like Color Studio Professional Knock Out Eye
Marker (what I use) or Maybelline Eye Liner Master
Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner. For gel liner Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eye
Liner is such a gem and so is Catrice Gel Eyeliner. For liquid
eyeliner you can get L’Oreal Paris Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner.
MASCARA
We all dream of those fluttery,
big lashes. They can make such an impact on the eyes. I personally use Max
Factor False Lash Effect 24 Hours Mascara. Some other great mascaras in
the market are Maybelline Falsies, Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Mascara,
Cover
Girl Lash Blast Mascara and L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara.
BLUSH
If you want some colour on your
cheeks, a blush is a must. Depending on what your colour preference is and what
suits you most; Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Spicy & Sweet (peachy-coral), Beautyuk
Stripey Pink Blush (soft pink), Sleek Makeup Blush in Pan Tao
(orange-coral), NYX Powder Blush in Pinched (shimmery peach) are some good
powder blushes.
HIGHLIGHTER
The look of a glowing face is so
mesmerizing. The trick is the right makeup product on the right places. Apply
highlighter on your cheekbones, bridge of the nose, under under the eyebrows, on your cupid's bow and you will glisten like a princess. My favourite highlighters are Sleek
Glisten Me Liquid Illuminator in Empress, Physicians Formula Mineral Glow
Pearls and Benefit High Beam. And if you can’t find any of these a very cheap
alternative is Luscious Sparkling Face Shimmer.
LIP PRODUCTS
Lip products are the statement of
your face. If you are getting married and want some basic shades go for some
pinks and nudes and a red. You can make the most by mixing and matching. For
red I love Chic Red by NYX. Wet n Wild’s Bare It All is an
amazing nude lipstick. For pinks I like MUA’s Shade 7, Essence All About Cupcake and
Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart. For glosses you can get Rimmel
London Vinyl Gloss in Be Famous, Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Peony or some cool shades from L’Oreal Paris
Infallible Lipglosses or MUA Intense Kisses High Intensity Lip Glosses.
BRUSHES
Of course none of the makeup is
worth it if you don’t have decent brushes to apply it with. What is MOST
important is a Blush Brush, Foundation Brush, Eyeshadow Blush and Eyeliner
Brush. If you can find an affordable, good quality brush kit somewhere then
nothing like it. Sigma, MAC
and Real
Techniques have the best out there. If you want something more basic
and budget-friendly which can do your job buy Luscious or Elf brush
kits.
NAIL POLISH
Yeah we all brides need nail
polishes! The best thing to do is buy some neutral shades of beige, baby pink
and don’t forget to add some red, pink and coral to it. Some glittery shades of
silver and gold are also good investments. Color Studio Professional and Maybelline
Color Show Collection have some great nail polish shades. Feel like spending a little more? Definitely go for O.P.I.
